Volunteer Safety Commitment Statement

As a team, our first responsibility is to each other. Safety isn’t a checklist—it’s a culture we build through awareness, communication, and decisive action. Every day on site, we look out for our teammates, our community, and ourselves. To keep that standard strong, we follow two simple frameworks that guide how we respond when something goes wrong: HELP and FIND.

 

HELP – Our Immediate Response to Injury

When someone gets hurt, even in a small way, we act quickly and calmly.
H – Halt the activity. We stop work right away to prevent further harm.
E – Evaluate the situation. We check the person and the area to understand what’s happening. If it’s minor, we treat it and continue; if not, we move forward with the next steps.
L – Locate first aid. We head to the first aid station or alert a trained responder without delay.
P – Provide support. We stay with the person, keep them calm, and follow the guidance of the first‑aid lead.

HELP reminds us that injuries—big or small—deserve attention, care, and a coordinated response. No one handles an emergency alone; we step in together.

 

FIND – Our Process When Someone Goes Missing

Safety also means ensuring every volunteer is accounted for. If someone becomes separated from the group, we use FIND to guide our actions.

F – Flag a lead. We immediately alert a site coordinator or safety lead so the situation is formally logged.
I – Initiate a search. We check nearby areas calmly and systematically with a buddy or group.
N – Notify authorities. If the person isn’t found within 15 minutes, we contact emergency services so professionals can take over.
D – Document details. We record the time, location, and last known information to support responders and ensure nothing is missed.

FIND ensures that no one slips through the cracks. It keeps our response organized, timely, and focused on bringing everyone back safely.
